Flat white coffee Tab x Tab London

After visiting Tab x Tab London for the first time this weekend? Was it love at first taste?

One thing is clear when you enter Tab x Tab, it’s all about the detail, everything from the upside-down hanging plants to the door (Buster and Punch maybe ?) handles on the restrooms, the attention to detail is topnotch and cannot be ignored. Take a moment to stroke the custom solid concrete counter and take a closer look and you’ll notice the Mavam espresso, apparently, 1 of 2 in the UK, system built right into the counter, impressive.

Park yourself on one of the bottom hugging stools in the window and watch the world go by while you wait for your chosen brew to be delivered to your own personal slice of south-west London. I ordered a flat white and a very hipster Avo on toast.

How about the coffee? there’s only one way to express how I felt and that is “Meh”, yep just meh, this was not what I was expecting,

Not even the handmade mugs by Kana London could alter my impression, most of the flavour and aroma was drowned out by the milk, there was just too much which led me to gulp it down like a warm cup of tea. This was a latte masquerading as a flat white.

for me this is just an ok flat white, it didn’t align with expectations and I wouldn’t travel to Tab x Tab for it, there are others who just do it better.

That said I decided to give the cortado a go, after all, it has less milk. Tab x Tab serves both flat white and cortado in the same size and volume cup so I wasn’t expecting much but boy was I wrong. WOW! Now that was a great cortado, full-bodied and aromatic it tasted more like the flat white I was expecting. Turns out the cortado was made using beans from the excellent Dutch roaster Bocca Coffee who are currently exclusive to Tab x Tab London.

Conclusion.

All-in-all Tab x Tab London is a super innovative detail orientated coffee experience. A well-needed coffee spot where you can put up your feet and fill your tummy. I would definitely make the journey there for that brilliant Bocca Cortado to chase down their very generous Avo on toast.

So was it love at first taste? more like We’re just friends 😉.
